Arithmetic helps the students deal more efficiently with the quantitative aspects of God's creation. Our goal in arithmetic, by the end of 6th grade, is to see the students computing accurately and quickly in addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, and to apply these operations to life's problems. Reasoning, algebraic equations, and geometry are also emphasized. The student must memorize the arithmetic facts in order to compute quickly. Students are taught to perform basic computational processes so as to be independent of electronic calculators.
